Explores the evolution of the electric power sector that deploys more wind and solar generation along with electrolysis deployment, temporal variation in energy prices, and curtailed power create opportunities for electrolyzers to produce low-cost hydrogen. This capability considers those opportunities for electrolyzers under various scenarios for power sector evolution and location. Spatial and temporal variation in energy cost and availability can be considered, along with how these variations create opportunities for hydrogen production. Direct coupling of electrolyzers with renewable energy generation such as solar, wind, and battery storage is another emerging pathway for low-cost and low-carbon hydrogen production. This capability provides insights on how to optimally integrate electrolyzers with variable renewable energy. This framework can consider spatially variable renewable resources, identifying key locations across the United States that could be best suited for electrolyzer and renewable integration.
