High-Pressure Low-Temperature Electrolysis Cell Hardware, Materials, and Procedures
This page details the drawings, auxiliary materials, and procedures required to fabricate, assemble, and operate the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's high-pressure low-temperature electrolysis cells.
Access the open-source hardware design.
The design package includes:
- Technical drawings with detailed specifications for hardware fabrication
- Procedure documentation for cell assembly
- Bills of materials
- 2D and 3D drawings for gaskets and subgaskets
- Performance and H2 crossover benchmark data, with and without edge protection.
While the hardware itself—end plates, current collectors, flow fields, bolts and washers, tube fittings—is always the same, the assembly and operating procedures may change depending on the active materials being tested, especially for the membrane. Material-specific assembly and operating procedures will be posted here as they are developed and validated.
